A BILL filed in the 112th US Congress, The Remembering America’s Forgotten Veterans Cemetery Act of 2012, seeks to restore the American cemetery in Clark, Pampanga, once the site of a US Air Force base.

The bill was filed by two Senators Kelly Ayotte (Republican-New Hampshire) and Mark Begich (Democrat-Alaska) to restore the Clark Veterans Cemetery, the final resting place in the Philippines of more than 8,300 United States service members and their dependents.
The “Remembering America’s Forgotten Veterans Cemetery Act” would require the American Battle Monuments Commission to restore, operate and maintain the Clark Veterans Cemetery to honor the Americans buried there.
Ayotte, 43, a junior Senator who once served as Attorney General in her state of New Hampshire, was part of the US Senate Armed Forces Committee delegation led by former Republican Party presidential candidate John McCain that met President Benigno Aquino and Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario in Malacañang on Jan. 17, 2012 to discuss US defense and development assistance to the Philippines.
Del Rosario had then said that the US Mission to the Philippines in January was part of their trip to Southeast Asia, including Myanmar and Vietnam, to broaden and deepen the defense and security relations between the two states. The group included Senators Joseph Liberman and Sheldon Whitehouse.
From 1900 until 1991, the Clark Veterans Cemetery, formerly known as the Fort Stotsenburg Cemetery, was maintained by the US government, but following a volcanic eruption in 1991 the US abandoned its Clark Air Force Base, leaving the cemetery covered by volcanic ash and plants. Since 1994 volunteers have attempted to maintain the cemetery without assistance from the US government.
“The U.S. government has a moral responsibility to care of veterans cemeteries that honor those who have bravely served our country,” Ayotte and Begich said in a statement.
“The American veterans buried in Clark Veterans Cemetery deserve a dignified and well-maintained final resting place, and it’s time for the US government to fulfill its responsibility to care for this sacred ground.”

The daughter of Ionel Iovan and Agnes Layug Iovan, “Kayla” grew up in Canada but apampangan blood still runs in her veins as she traces her roots from the Rivera-Dizon clan of Barangay Concepcion here.
Kayla, a high school graduate of St. Francis Senior High, is a talented singer.
At an early age of 3, she knew that singing was something she loved to do, and would pursue throughout her life.
She began singing lessons at the young age of 9, and has been singing ever since.
Kayla won her first beauty pageant at the age of 11, winning the title of Miss Junior Philippines Canada-Calgary, as well as Miss Talent and best in Gown.
The next year, she joined Calgary’s Junior Miss and ended up walking away with the title, and was also announced the winner of Miss Talent in the singing category.
The same year, she also won Calgary’s Junior Singing Idol, and as a prize, was flown to Las Vegas to perform at a Variety show at the Venetian Hotel.
Kayla is also active in the school community, winning her school talent show and being a recipient of the “Christian Leadership” award, as well as maintaining Honor Roll status.
In September of 2007, Kayla was chosen as one of the winners of the David Foster Star Search, and had the honorable experience of performing at the Jack Singer Concert hall with David Foster himself, with guest appearances by Lionel Richie, Sinbad, Peter Cetera and William Joseph.
Later that month, both winners, Kayla and David VandenEnden, were sent to Halifax, NS to perform at the kickoff for the David Foster Star Search held in March.
She has also been invited to perform with David Foster as various events around Canada, including an appearance on Canada AM in Vancouver, BC.
Last October, Kayla was presented with the Tamaraw Awards (Community Service Award) recognizing her as an achiever and good role model in the Filipino community.
In July of last year, Kayla got the opportunity to perform at the Calgary Stampede’s Greatest Outdoor Show on earth, the Grand Show. Singing her rendition of Whitney Houston’s hit “I will Always Love You” in front of a crowd exceeding 20,000 each night, was truly a dream come true for her.
Aside from singing, Kayla took up acting lessons for films and television as well as piano, dance and voice lessons at the Young Canadians of Performing Arts School, Hollywood and Vines Co. and North Conservatory of Music.
She also performed with other local artists like Sam Milby, Piolo Pascual, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Sarah Geronimo, Vina Morales and Gary Valenciano.
Her other skills also include modeling, computers, badminton, dancing, hosting, tennis, choir, basketball, volleyball and performing (acting).

ANGELES CITY — The City Council here has commended the city police, particularly the Motorized Anti-Street Crime Operatives (Masco), for its anti-criminality campaign that led to the arrest of suspected riding-in-tandem robbers.
City Council Resolution 6385 Series of 2012, which was sponsored by Councilor Edu Pamintuan, cited Masco operatives including Superintendent Manuel Hidalgo, Chief Inspector Deonido Maniago Jr., Chief Inspector Luisito Tan, SPO1 Ervin Mendoza, PO2 Melvin Manalo, PO1 Delbert Tolentino, PO1 June Pilando Jr., PO1 Rodel Bolus, PO1 Mark Gutierrez and PO1 Jerry Tabek.
On March 20, the 10 police officers arrested two individuals identified as Jayren Buan David and Bryan Santiago Buerano, who were then riding a motorcycle without helmets and license plate.
The suspects were also carrying guns and live bullets when they were siezed by the policemen.
The City Government acquired additional patrol cars and other equipment to improve the operational capability of the city police.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan earlier assured Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono Jr., city police director, that the City Government will continue supporting the anti-crime campaign of the local police.
Tan and the other awarded cops thanked the City Council for the commendation they received.

Their halo-halo is not colorful but makes use of a blend of sweets that creates a simple, subtle, and almost divine blend. The sweetness of the ingredients does not overpower one another but instead complements a distinct sweet taste that is not boring.
A serving of this famed halo-halo should be eaten with a plate of native palabok or puto and dinuguan. The price of the halo-halo is a little over P60 and could be eaten in a convenient ambiance. The Razon’s brand is one of the most accessible halo-halo brands of Kapampangan origin, as its branches are well established in key cities in Luzon. Wikipilipinas, a Philippine based website, even places Razon’s halo-halo among the top ten best halo-halo in country.
But if you are a sweet-tooth and have a penchant for sweeter ingredients, better troop to Arayat town for their famed Kabigting’s halo-halo. Instead of using milk, this halo-halo makes use of carabao milk to give it a finer flavor. The unique addition of pastillas and other pre-sweetened ingredients that are added contributes to the flavor of the dessert. One can describe the blend as soothing but a bit sweeter if not only for the carabao milk that tempers the taste.
A much more economical choice for a halo-halo craving is to visit Halo Halo sa Corazon in Angeles City. When in Angeles City, look for Corazon St. along Nepo Subd. The halo-halo here boasts of finely shaved ice and the unique blend of ingredients and sugar syrup. Halo Halo sa Corazon is also a snack house with specialties that include palabok, dinuguan and puto. Started in the year 2000, they have two branches mainly in Angeles City.
These three are only a few of the best popular brands in the province. There are in fact a dozen more halo-halo brands claiming fame as the “best halo-halo” in Pampanga. But as any food lover would know, de gustibus non est dispotandum (there is no arguing about taste).
