CLARK, Pampanga – First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin has written Robert Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company based in Burbank, California, USA, to ask him to consider Clark for their next Walt Disney park, saying that Clark’s 4,400 hectare main zone and 27,600-hectare subzone will be the best place for a new Disneyland. “Aside from the huge space it provides, the Clark Freeport Zone can be an attractive destination for Disneyland theme park because of the tax-free privileges given to locators,” said Lazatin in his letter dated April 11.
Lazatin also cited Clark International Airport, world-class airport which is expected to serve at least P1.6-million passengers this year. “The airport will be making it easier for tourists to enjoy the amenities and entertainment Disneyland is famous for without the hassles of long travels,” he said.
Lazatin also told Iger that hotel accommodations will not be a problem as Clark has the best hotels in its roster where visitors can enjoy the hospitality Filipinos are known for.
The lawmaker said the Philippines is a favorite tourist destination in Southeast Asia, with an average arrival of four million foreign visitors a year and for 2012, the government is eyeing to hit the 5-million mark. “Together with our population of more than 90 million Filipinos, a Disneyland theme park in the Philippines could be a major income generating site for your company,” he said.

CAMP OLIVAS — A man who attempted to sell metal scraps he allegedly stole was arrested by local police here, reports said.
Police identified the suspect as Harrol Ramos Gonzales, 28, of Block 60, lot 23, San Isidro Resettlement Center in Magalang town.

According to police, two concerned citizens flagged down a mobile patrol unit making its rounds at the San Isidro Resettlement Center (SIRC) to report that the said suspect was allegedly seen stealing a metal drainage cover in Barangay San Isidro.
Joint elements of the Magalang Municipal Police Station, Bantay Bayan of SIRC and the Regional Public Safety Battalion were able to intercept the suspect as he was about to sell the piece of metal at a junkshop owned by one Jeffrey Motados Monsanto, 36, of Blk. 7 lot 1, Barangay San Isidro, Magalang town.
The suspect was apprised of his constitutional rights upon his arrest.
When the arresting officer conducted a body search, the suspect also yielded one transparent plastic heat-sealed sachet containing suspected dried marijuana leaves.
The confiscated suspected marijuana was turned over to the Philippine National Police crime laboratory for scientific examination, while the suspect is now detained at the Magalang police station as charges for theft and violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 is now being prepared for filing in court.

CANDABA — Mayor Jerry Pelayo earlier instructed the Municipal Health Office (MHO) chief to monitor the status of pregnant women in the villages here and discourage them from giving birth at home.
Pelayo told Dr. Abigail Gallardo, the newly appointed MHO chief, to remind midwifes under her watch to encourage pregnant mommies to give birth at the birthing stations put up here, instead of inside their own homes.
“Wala nang manganganak sa bahay mula ngayon. Mas mabuti kung manganganak na lamang sila sa pinagawa nating birthing station sa likod ng munisipyo (From now on, all pregnant mothers should deliver their babies at our birthing station, not at home),” he said.
The mayor added that the safety of the mothers should be given outmost consideration as delivery at home is not healthy for the baby and the mother for lack of facilities.
Pelayo also warned midwifes who will be caught violating his instruction that they will be dealt with accordingly.
Earlier, the Municipal Government constructed a birthing station at the back of the municipal hall in the town plaza to accommodate pregnant women who cannot afford to pay private doctors. (HPM)

YESTERDAY, I was invited to speak before graduates of the AMA Computer Learning Center, or ACLC at the Pampanga Convention Center, City of San Fernando. I thought of asking the indulgence of readers and share my speech with them:
“Bago ko po simulan ang aking pakikipag-usap sa inyo ngayong araw ng pagtatapos, bayaan ninyo akong magpugay sa mga panauhin, guro at opisyales ng inyong paaralan. Sa mga graduates, tanggapin ninyo ang aking pagbati.” Your induction into the ranks of information technology and other disciplines is, probably timely, if not providential. I say timely because you finished your academic requirements and obtained your degrees in the midst of the rage and clamor (and demand) for IT specialists like you.

I say providential because God may have given you the right connect, so to speak, and blessed you with supportive parents, relatives and classmates, not to mention your school, ACLC, which has strived to offer you, in the words of Miss Rumina Ramos, school director, “holistic and value-centered education” and aimed to produce globally competitive graduates who are groomed to be IT professionals not only here in the Philippines but also in other countries.
Such is the noble intention of your school and its instructors and, of course, its administrators. You ought to recompense its fine gesture by helping others move forward.

For our part, at Peso Mabalacat, and in other Public Employment Service Office nationwide, we give graduates referral letters to good, reputable and suitable employers. During your stint at ACLC, I surmise that you have been thoroughly trained to be effective and efficient IT professionals. With this training, values education should have been included in your curriculum so that can make you completely developed individuals with sense of responsibility not only to yourselves but also toward your community and, by extension, your country.
Remember, your work does not end upon completion of your academic requirements. It is only the start of more responsibilities and tasks. This is where your innate sense of fortitude, character and competence can be measured, gauged and tested.
I believe you can handle the challenges that may confront you now and in the future. After all, the encouragement you obtained from your school, parents, teachers and colleagues may be sufficient impetus to propel you and move you forward.
On your way to other disciplines and activities, you carry the name of your school. It is imperative that you keep its name proudly intact and admirable. Do not, in any way, stain its image through shenanigans and wrongdoings. As much as possible, avoid bad company and bad habits. Keep your dealings above board and unassailable. You are the extensions of your families, school and community. Reciprocate the love, encouragement and support of your kin with the same degree, if possible with much more intensity and fervor. After all, they deserve no less.
Graduates, look at each other and say: Congratulations! Look at your parents, guardians and teachers and say loudly: Thank you! Look above and search the skies for God and say: We love and thank you!
