MANILA, Philippines – Two branches of LBC remittance center were robbed allegedly by the same suspects in Pampanga province.
Based from the videos captured by a CCTV camera inside the LBC remittance center in Angeles, a gunman entered the establishment and declared a hold-up at noon Thursday.
One of the witnesses, who declined to be identified, said the robber was wearing a helmet when he robbed the establishment of P5,300 cash.
Police said the robber did not act alone as his cohort waited outside on a motorcycle.
“Sumakay sila sa isang Wave motorcycle,” said station 6 Commander, Chief Inspector Marciano Bañiola.
After several hours, the same robbers struck again, this time in another LBC branch in the town of Magalang.
Terrified employees said two men who wore helmets entered the remittance center and at gunpoint divested the establishment of P75,000 cash and 2 cellular phones.
Police said employees of the 2 LBC branches gave them the same descriptions of the robbers.
The man who had the gun was described to be 5’5” tall while his accomplice stands about 5’7” to 5’8” and wore a black long-sleeved shirt.
Authorities declined to give further details as a manhunt operation is underway to arrest the suspects.
“Hindi muna natin mapapanglanan. Identified na ‘yung isa,” said Bañiola.

An inmate longing for his family took a fellow convict hostage at the provincial jail in Pampanga province on Friday morning, the police said.

Pampanga police chief Senior Superintendent Edgardo Tinio said the inmate used a bladed weapon to take his fellow convict hostage.

“Hindi lang dinadalaw ng pamilya kaya siguro bumigay, na disturb,” Tinio said in an interview on dzBB radio.

The inmate promised to release his hostage once his relative arrives.

Tinio said arrangements were made for the inmate’s sibling to visit him at the jail.

The relative was expected to arrive from Pangasinan within the day.

“We have his assurance su-surrender siya peacefully,” Tinio said.

In the meantime, Tinio said he has deployed a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to the jail.

Tinio cited initial reports indicating that the hostage-taker had some mood swings, although he accepted food given by jail officials.

He said the jail warden will investigate the incident after it is resolved.

CAMP OLIVAS — Police in Central Luzon have raised the alarm against possible attacks from communist rebels, as the New People’s Army (NPA) observes its founding anniversary.
In a statement, Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima reminded police units within the region to be alert and take extra precautions for possible atrocities the rebel group may carry out, following their founding 42nd anniversary last March 29.
Purisima has also directed field unit commanders to strengthen and implement utmost security measures to pre-empt harassments of police personnel, ambuscades, raids, sabotage of cell sites and vital installations.
A series of field command conferences held in the different provinces within the region were also conducted in order to beef up security measures.
Police have also conducted inspections on “soft targets,” such as isolated and less fortified police and military outposts, government installations and infrastructure, and vital facilities.
Purisima said the regional police are in an aggressive stance to address criminality by way of implementing the Police Integrated Patrol System (Pips).
Pips is a tool adopted by the Philippine National Police in the conduct of anti-criminality and police operations to reduce street crimes, neutralize motorcycle riding criminals, arrest wanted persons and address other crimes committed with the use of firearms.

MABALACAT – The Central Luzon Police Intelligence Unit filed at least three criminal cases against a person who survived in the shootout in Barangay Cacutud here on Thursday.
Marcos Pangan is now facing illegal possession of firearms, frustrated murder, and violation of the Omnibus Election Code, police said.
Pangan’s companion, Ricky Narciso, was killed after the two allegedly exchanged fire with elements of the Central Luzon Police Intelligence Unit based in Camp Olivas in the City of San Fernando.
Pangan was reportedly hit on the left hand during the shootout and is now in police custody.
Mabalacat Police Chief Rolly Mendoza said Pangan was taken to the Ramos General Hospital in Tarlac province after the incident.
Central Luzon Police Operations Chief Rosve Manulid earlier said operatives of the regional intelligence unit were conducting surveillance and casing operation in the area when they encountered Narciso.
The policemen chanced upon Narciso and his companion identified as Marcos Pangan in the village. After sensing the presence of the law enforcers in the area, Narciso and Pangan immediately fled on board a motorcycle.
The cops pursued the duo but Narciso fired at the police officers. The policemen retaliated and hit the suspect. Pangan also sustained gunshot wounds, police said.
Members of the Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) recovered from the crime scene Narciso’s .45 caliber pistol. His body was taken to the Funeraria Pangilinan for autopsy.
Manulid said Narciso was involved in several robbery and homicide cases in this town.
Mendoza said that Narciso has several standing warrant of arrest in connection with cases filed against him.
Meanwhile, reports from the Regional Intelligence Division to Central Luzon Police Director Arturo Cacdac, Jr. said the operation led to the neutralization of the notorious leader of the Narciso criminal group and the arrest of one of its members who are responsible for the series of robbery holdups perpetrated by tandem riders committed in Mabalacat, Angeles City and adjacent municipalities.
Cacdac said the group was included in the order of battle of the Central Luzon Police Regional Office for their illegal activities closely monitored by intelligence operatives, including their involvement in the plan to rob a wealthy businessman in Barangay Tabun here

ANGELES CITY — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has found a new lead in the brutal killing of a nursing student here last year.
Chief Inspector Randy Glenn Silvio, chief of the Pampanga CIDG based in Barangay Pampang here, said two students of Angeles University Foundation (AUF) saw the victim being accompanied by several students on her way to the boarding house where she was killed.
Keith Valerio Ballesteros, 16, a former nursing student of AUF, was brutally killed inside her boarding house in Barangay Salapungan on September 3, 2009.
It has been five months since the killing but no suspects have been arrested and charged yet.
“Ang latest po, may nakunan kaming dalawang students from AUF ng statements na nakita yung victim na may kasamang students ng umuwi sa boarding house before she was found dead,” Silvio said.
Silvio, however, said the witnesses cannot identify the students who accompanied Ballesteros before she was murdered.

Earlier, leaders of Barangay Salapungan told Sun.Star Pampanga that the girl’s ghost was felt by a Bantay Bayan member and a nursing student of AUF in two instances.
Salapungan chairman Robert Yeen said one of Ballestero’s classmates saw the victim sitting and crying along the road leading to the boarding house where she was killed.
Frightened of what she experienced, the victim’s classmate screamed, making the residents in the neighborhood go out of their homes.
Ruben Mananquil, assistant executive officer of Barangay Salapungan, said he also encountered Ballestero’s ghost.
Mananquil is the one of the first responders who entered Ballestero’s boarding house on the day of the murder.
Yeen said the victim’s soul might be giving some clues that will lead authorities in solving the case.
Ballesteros relatives posted placards of the victim along the roads, Barangay Hall, and other places within the village.
The posters bear statement “Justice for Keith.”
Ballesteros, a native of Arayat town, sustained several stab wounds on the body, head bash and other serious injuries.
Ballesteros’ body was found by Mary Luz Valerio Flores, the victim’s cousin and roommate, inside the comfort room of the boarding house around 4 p.m. on September 3.
Police stated that the victim was found drooped in a plastic basin full of water.
Around 11 a.m. on September 3, Ballesteros returned to the boarding house to take her lunch.
When Flores returned home around 4 p.m. on the same date, she found the victim sprawled inside the comfort room.
Flores then sought the assistance of Bantay Bayan members in Barangay Salapungan who later relayed the incident to the city police.
