Dole boosting FWP in Central Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Labor Department of Central Luzon has started boosting its Family Welfare Program or FWP designed to strengthen family ties of workers in Central Luzon, a Dole official said.
Labor communications officer Jerry Borja said Dole regional director Raymundo Agravante over the weekend instructed all provincial field offices to intensify the program to further sustain industrial peace in the region.
Agravante recently led the conduct of series of orientations on the FWP involving three entities in Baler, Aurora province: Wesleyan University, Aurora Electric Cooperative (Aurelco), and Alalay sa Kaunlaran Inc. (Aski), where family welfare committees were established.
Wesleyan University’s FWP “Securing Efficient Faculty members and Staff through Training and Educational Assistance,” focuses on education and training assistance that will be provided to all qualified employees.
Aurelco’s FWP, Enlightened Workers through Sports and Leisure Activities, involves activities like social nights for employees, education and training assistance and medical insurance.
Aski’s FWP, meanwhile, offers micro finance services based on its concept “Extending Entrepreneurial Spirit to the Family of ASKI Employees.”
“The FWP is our way to help both management and employees to realize better working relationship by fulfilling the needs of the family of workers. The formula is very simple: A happy family means a happy worker; a happy worker means higher productivity; higher productivity means more competitive establishments,” Agravante said.
The 10 dimensions of the FWP include Reproductive Health or Responsible Parenthood; Education or Gender Equality; Spirituality and Values Formation; Income Generation, Livelihood, Cooperative; Medical Health Care; Nutrition; Environment Protection; Hygiene and Sanitation; Sports and Leisure; and Housing and Transportation.

South Korean envoy lauds Pampanga OFWs as ‘reliable’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Hye-min has underscored the important contribution of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) based in Pampanga and vowed to work further with Gov. Lilia Pineda to send more of her constituents to work as factory and skilled workers in South Korea.

Lee, during a courtesy call to Pineda on Friday at the Capitol, told Pineda that Korean investors had prepared to hire Kapampangas (local term for Pampanga folk) because they are “kind. hardworking and reliable.”
“I just came here to thank the governor for the workers from Pampanga,” said Lee, who arrived on schedule at 11 a.m. for the one-hour meeting and ceremonial with Pineda and Pampanga Board Members Cris Garbo, Trina Dizon, Monz Laus, Jun Dimson and Fritzie David-Dizon.
Lee said he also visited to meet with leaders of South Korean firms based in the Pampanga numbering at least 13,000. Most of them are based in Angeles City and the Clark Freeport, he said.
Pineda expressed elation over the preference of South Korean businessmen to OFWs based in the province, considered as the regional center of Central Luzon.
“Indeed, our greatest asset is our people who are beautiful inside and out,” said Pineda in the dialect.
“The Kapampangans are not just talented but are passionate in everything they do,” she said.
Pineda said with help of her children – former Mayor Dennis Pineda and incumbent Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab – they were able to assist more than 6,000 people to get high-paying jobs in South Korea. She added that most of whom are from their hometown of Lubao.
“It’s a collective effort. My children and I were just a small part of helping get quality jobs for Pampanga residents,” Pineda said, adding that when she assumed her post in 2010, there were some 2,000 OFWs in South Korea.
Pineda, who is set to be honored today at the Capitol for being conferred “Most Outstanding Governor” of the Philippines on Public Employment Service Office (Peso), said the province “is always committed to help OFWs since day one [of her administration].”

Pineda bares P1.2-B infra projects in Pampanga

CLARK FREEPORT—The provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Lilia Pineda has spent at least P1.2 billion for the various infrastructure projects in the province.
This was announced by Pineda during the oath-taking of the officers of Provincial Federation of Barangay Health Workers dubbed as “Bayanihan Para Sa Kalusugan Ng Mga Kapampangan” held at Stotsenberg Hotel here.
“Since we assumed as governor of Pampanga, we have funded major infrastructure projects like construction and renovation of district hospitals, construction of classroom buildings in different public schools  and provincial, municipal and barangay farm to market roads,” Pineda said.
However, she said the provincial government still has P1-billion, enough to fund other equally important projects intended for the development of the province and upliftment of the way of life of the Kapampangans.
Since day-one of the governor’s incumbency, the provincial government has started the general renovation and improvement of all existing district hospital buildings in the province including facilities and medical equipment.
“In the improvement of our district hospitals, we are 85 percent complete,” the governor said.
The Capitol has also funded the establishment of dialysis centers in selected district hospitals aimed at providing cheaper treatment for dialysis patients.
The dialysis centers were realized through partnership with private individuals and companies who are helping the governor through the provision of dialysis machines under a co-management agreement.
As of this month, at least 182 newly classrooms and six covered courts in various public schools in the province had been constructed with an estimated amount of P176-million.
 For 2011 alone, records from the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) showed the provincial government released P50 million for the construction of 45 new rooms; repair and improvement of 32 classrooms and building of five covered courts.
This year, P54.149 has been allocated to finance the construction of 28 new classrooms, repair and improvements of 77 classrooms and one covered court.
The provincial government through the PEO has facilitated the reconstruction several provincial roads in flood hit municipalities as damaged and destroyed by  recent calamities.
Other infrastructure projects finished were the improvement of dikes particularly in Mandili, Candaba and  San Sebastian, San Luis town.
The Pampanga River Dike Rd. Batasan-Candating section in Arayat, San Nicolas 1st barangay road in Sasmuan, Phase 11 of Guagua-Sta. Rita-Porac road San Matias and Becuran section, Phase IV Dila-dila section both in Sta. Rita, and Phase V Dila-dila-Pulong Santol section in Sta.Rita-Porac were also completed.
The widening of San Miguel-Sta.Cruz barangay road in San Simon and reblocking and asphalt overlay of Sto. Domingo-Lourdes-San Isidro-Telacsan-Colgante provincial road from Minalin to Apalit and Macabebe.
The provincial government also completed the improvement and concreting of the provincial Road in San Juan-San Jose-Natividad-Lambac-Pulong Masle Road Lambac section in Guagua, San Matias-San Simon road San Matias section in Sto. Tomas, and Del Rosario-Bacolor road in the City of San Fernando, Sta. Ana Magalang along San Agustin section and in San Sebastian San Luis.
Last year, after Typhoon Pedring devastated the province, Pineda provided at least P80 million for the priority development projects of each of the 20 municipalities in the province.
This is intended to jump start the reconstruction and rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure facilities and their projects highly needed in the municipality.
Recently, the provincial government has given again all local government units some P100 million  to finance various priority development projects.

4,120 residents receive PhilHealth cards

ANGELES CITY — A total of 4,120 indigent residents here recently received PhilHealth cards from the City Government and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Phic).
“Our beneficiaries were identified by the National Government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR),” PHIC branch manager Arsenia Torres said.
Torres said Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting led the card distribution at the Marquee Mall Activity Center.
“This health insurance card covers social protection in terms of health care. As such, it will be very useful for these individuals in times of sickness,” Torres said.
She added that the local government also plays an integral role in assuring that each member of the community is enrolled in the program.
Mayor Pamintuan announced the City Government alone has more than 20,000 enrollees under the health insurance program of PhilHealth.

“In behalf of the people of Angeles, we are extending our gratitude to the management of PHIC, more so, to the National Government led by President Benigno Aquino III for providing health care opportunity reachable to everyone,” Pamintuan added.
Under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for 2012, the National Government has allotted P12.5 billion to ensure the health needs of every Filipino.
The local government of Angeles was able to expand its PhilHealth card coverage from 3,700 in 2010 to 27,200, she said.

City Hall employee hailed for exemplary deed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — An employee of the City Government of San Fernando was recently recognized for preventing a robbery attempt.
Ronillo Gloria, who is assigned at the City Treasurer’s Office, was cited by Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, local officials, co-employees, and police after he chased three suspected thieves aboard a motorcycle
Narvin Mangune, newly appointed City Police Chief, said the victim, Emily Bartolo, 43, of Northville 14 in Barangay Calulut, was walking in front of the San Fernando Elementary School along B. Mendoza Street at 10 p.m. last October 2 when three unidentified suspects aboard a motorcycle appeared from behind and grabbed her shoulder bag.
The suspects then drove off towards the direction of Capitol Boulevard in Barangay Sto. Niño.

The suspects fled towards nearby Philippine National Railways (PNR).
Gloria’s companion sought help from the PPPO through PO2 Joel Ticsay, the stolen handbag with its contents intact, and the getaway vehicle were recovered.
The suspects however, eluded arrest.

Guv wants better ties with Koreans in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda said she is batting for a renewed relation with the Korean communities in the province during his talk with South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Hyuk Lee.
The governor welcomed Lee over the weekend along with Korean community officials in Pampanga and Angeles City.
Pineda said the visit aimed to promote the strong ties among Koreans living and studying in the province.
She said there are some 6,000 or more South Koreans living and visiting the country each year, adding the Koreans have form a strong presence in Porac, Mabalacat, and Angeles City, where they operate hotels, restaurants, schools, and a community hospital. Pineda said she hopes to promote better cooperation with Koreans here and strengthen the network with Kapampangans working in South Korea.
Pineda said the Pampanga Public Employment Services Office assisted the Korean Language Test passers in terms of discounted price of medical examination in selected venues in the province.
The province has accommodated the proper facilitation of papers for Kapampangans wanting to work in South Korea through job fairs, she said.

Village hosts first wood carving contest

GUAGUA, Pampanga – The Wood Carvers Guild of Sta. Ursula Betis held Saturday the first-ever on-the-spot wood carving competition at the Sta. Ursula Gym
The event is in cooperation with the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines-Pampanga Chapter with the support of Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (2nd District, Pampanga).
The event was participated by some 30 wood carvers and sculptors competing under two categories.
The first category was free interpretation of the face of Christ, while the second was focused on the free interpretation on the Betis Church.
Rey Cayanan, official of the Wood Carvers Guild of Sta. Ursula Betis, said the event was aimed at popularizing the local wood carving industry here.
He added they hope to attract younger Betisenos in pursuing the craft.
“There are many good wood carvers here in Betis. The only problem that we see now is making the younger generation pursue the craft,” Cayanan said.
The contest was also aimed at promoting the wood-carved products of the town, which range from religious sculptures to furniture.
Organizers said they hope to continue the event each year to become a yearly activity as part of whole celebration of the town’s wood carving tradition.

4,120 residents receive PhilHealth cards

ANGELES CITY — A total of 4,120 indigent residents here recently received PhilHealth cards from the City Government and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Phic).
“Our beneficiaries were identified by the National Government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR),” PHIC branch manager Arsenia Torres said.
Torres said Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting led the card distribution at the Marquee Mall Activity Center.
“This health insurance card covers social protection in terms of health care. As such, it will be very useful for these individuals in times of sickness,” Torres said.
She added that the local government also plays an integral role in assuring that each member of the community is enrolled in the program.
Mayor Pamintuan announced the City Government alone has more than 20,000 enrollees under the health insurance program of PhilHealth.
“In behalf of the people of Angeles, we are extending our gratitude to the management of PHIC, more so, to the National Government led by President Benigno Aquino III for providing health care opportunity reachable to everyone,” Pamintuan added.
Under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for 2012, the National Government has allotted P12.5 billion to ensure the health needs of every Filipino.
The local government of Angeles was able to expand its PhilHealth card coverage from 3,700 in 2010 to 27,200, she said.
The transportation sector, market vendors, government employees, women’s groups, and former barangay officials were given individual health insurance cards in compliance to the Republic Act 7875 instituting the National Health Insurance Program for all Filipinos
