Ang kasabay ni Lacuna ay ang kapwa manlalangoy na si Jasmine Alkhadi, at ang shooter na si Brian Rosario.

Ang nasabing training camp ay bilang paghahanda sa mga kalahok sa 2012 London Olympics na magsisimula sa Hulyo 27 at matatapos sa Agosto 12.

Ito ang ikatlong pagsasagawa ng Olympics sa London sa nagdaang 104 na taon. Unang isinagawa ang Olympics sa nasabing lungsod noong 1908 at nasundan pa noong 1948.

Ito ay tinugon ng mga kaibigan ni Lacuna ng mga mensaheng, “good luck Jessie,” “kaya mo yan,” good luck kabayan,” at “God bless.”

May nagsabi rin ng “we are proud of you!”

Una rito, sinabi ni Lacuna na matagal niyang pinangarap na makasali sa Olympics.

Dahil dito, pinagsikapan niya ang lahat ng pagsasanay at lumahok sa ibat-ibang paligsahan sa paglangoy sa bansa at ibayong dagat upang masukat ang kanyang kakahayan.

Sa mga nasabing paligsahan, hindi nabigo si Lacuna, dahil kadalasan ay nag-uuwi siya ng medalya.

Isa sa mga natatanging paligsahang kanyang nilahukan ay ang 2012 Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships kung saan ay binasag niya ang national record na itinala ng manlalangoy na si Miguel Molina sa 2007 Southeast Asian Games na isinagawa sa Thailand.

A HOUSE opposition leader on Wednesday advised President Benigno Aquino III to be “ruthless” both to enemies and allies, saying the administration’s “daang Matuwid” (straight path) campaign is not enough.
“Though I have no iota of doubt over his sincerity in his programs, it’s not enough. You have to be determined, you have to be sharp and you have to be ruthless both to enemies and friends; meaning, if your ally committed a wrongdoing, the same tenacity should be given,” Minority Leader Danilo Suarez told reporters in a press conference.
The House opposition bloc has earlier criticized Aquino for defending his “kakampi, kaklase and kabarilan” (party mates, classmates and shooting buddies) or KKK.
Suarez, a close ally of Aquino’s predecessor, Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, refused to give the Aquino leadership a grade for his second year in office.
“If I answer that, you might think it’s Lacierda who is speaking here. But if the President is not honest, the government would have already collapsed,” Suarez said, referring to presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
The House leader said that an honest leader like Aquino is rare in politics but he criticized the President for the slow economic growth in 2011 after the government deliberately cut off public spending.
He also said that the continuing persecution of Arroyo is a “disturbing reminder of the danger posed to due process, human rights, and civil liberties by the President’s vindictiveness.”
“We fear that this grandmother in poor health may be denied proper medical care by being transferred to a regular jail cell, purely on the strength of a flimsy legal case based on uncorroborated and poisonous hearsay. If this can happen to someone of her stature, how can ordinary citizens who may also incur the President’s wrath expect to be treated any better by him?” Suarez asked.

AN OFFICIAL of the Catholic Church is alarmed over the death of a Dutch missionary in San Fernando, Pampanga, saying the incident sent a chilling effect to people fighting for social justice.
Willem Geertman, 67, was gunned down by motorcycle riding men on Tuesday afternoon in front of his office in San Telebastagan village. He was shot at close range.
“That’s really alarming. Does this mean that all those fighting for the rights of the farmers are being targeted for liquidation?” said Father Edu Gariguez, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines National Secretariat for Social Action (CBCP-Nassa).
With this, the Catholic priest is wondering on who would be the next victim on the growing list of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.
“We also go to different areas are they going to target us also?” said Gariguez, a human rights advocate who has been helping the farm workers in Hacienda Luisita, a sugar estate, which belonged to the maternal relatives of President Benigno Aquino III.
Gariguez said he does not personally know the Dutch missionary, who was the executive director of the Alay Bayan Inc. (ABI).
“Although he belongs to a different group and we don’t really know him, just the same he was a defender of rights,” he said.
Malacañang said a closed-circuit television (CCTV) video obtained by the police at the crime scene could help in the investigation.
“There is a CCTV; they were able to record the vehicle. I don’t know if they capture the face of the perpetrators. It’s now on the process of identifying the vehicle and also the assailants,” said presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
He said the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has formed a task force comprised of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the local police of Pampanga to investigate the killing of Geertman.
On the other hand, the CBCP official is hoping that President Aquino will address the problem of human rights violation in the country in his State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 23.
“He should address this in his Sona. He should not focus only anti-corruption because there are other problems in the country,” Gariguez said.
The National Council of Churches in the Philippines also condemned the death of the foreign missionary.
“We stand on the inviolability of human life and no one has the right to tamper with somebody else’s life much more to take that life away. We stand on the Christian vision of a community or country where the humanity of each person deserves all the respect regardless of their economic or political status,” the group said in a statement.
Geertman is the second European community worker killed in the past few months.
In October last year, Fr. Fausto Tentorio, an Italian priest in Mindanao, was shot inside a church in North Cotabato.
Both Geertman and Tentorio were active in several environmental, anti mining and indigenous peoples’ advocacies.
“The death of Willem is a big loss to the entire network. We mourn and condemn his brutal killing. But as we mourn the loss of a committed development worker, we also vow to continue his good works for vulnerable communities and humanitarian response,” Citizens’ Disaster Response Network chairperson Jimmy Khayog said.
Geertman lived in the Philippines for 46 years and pushed the rights and welfare of disaster-affected people in rural communities of Central Luzon.

SANTO TOMAS – Mayor Joselito Naguit recently urged his constituents to observe proper waste segregation in order to reduce the volume of domestic garbage produced in this town.
“Buri kuna ring samantalan ing pamikatagun ayni. Anyaran ku kareng kabalen tamu keni Sto. Tomas na mag-segregate tamung basura para makasaup tamu king programa ng Nanay,” Naguit said.
The mayor said that with proper waste segregation, the hauling expenses will be reduced, to the benefit of the residents and Municipal Government.
Earlier, the Provincial Government advocated the establishment of material recovery facilities (MRFs) in different places in the province. But only a few villages have come up with their own operational MRFs.
This is despite the massive campaign on waste segregation including the establishment of clustered MRFs.
Governor Lilia Pineda also previously distributed dump trucks in all towns in the province to further bolster the campaign on waste segregation.
The junkshop workers, likewise, were given garbage carts or “kariton” as they are treated partners of the Provincial Government in solid waste management.

MABALACAT — Member-consumers of the Pampanga Electric Cooperative II (Pelco II) assailed the management of said electric firm for the sudden increase in power rates.
With most electric bills increasing by 100 percent this month, the consumers criticized the Pelco II management for not issuing prior notice for the said adjustments.
The Pelco II management increased the power rate from P8.70 to P10.20 per kilowatt-hour, a group of consumers said.
Pelco II Mabalacat Sub-station manager Mario Pangilinan declined to comment, saying he is not allowed to issue any statement regarding the decision of the management of the electric cooperative based in Guagua town.
However, Pangilinan furnished Sun.Star Pampanga a notice addressed to Pelco II customers regarding the Deferred Accounting Adjustment (DAAs) of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
The Pelco II management stated in the notice that on March 26, 2012, the ERC issued an order regarding the DAAs for the Recovery of Incremental Fuel and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Costs under the 13th to 17th Generation Rate Adjustment Mechanism and 15th to 16th Incremental Currency Exchange Rate Adjustment (Icera).
“Pursuant to the ERC decision, the National Power Corporation and Power Sector Asset and Liabilities Management Corporation (Psalm) are authorized to recover the DAAs effective March 26 to April 25, 2012 billing period,” the Pelco II management stated.
“Further it (ERC decision) directed successor generation companies (SGCs) to provide assistance to the said government agencies in implementing the recovery/ refund of the DAAs and act as billing agents,” the electric cooperative added.
Pelco II, in compliance to the ERC order, implemented the adjustments of 0.6904 per kilowatt hour effective in the June 2012 billing period.
“Pelco II will also act as billing and collection agents from the end consumers,” the notice indicated.
Pangilinan said if consumers have questions/clarifications, they may contact the Pelco II main office at (045) 900 0611; 900 2650; 900 0850; 901 0534; and 9001294.
