ANGELES CITY –- Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan led other city officials in the blessing and inauguration of the Agyu Tamu Medikalinga Center in Barangay Santo Domingo on Friday.

The medical facility will cater indigent patients in need of minor surgeries.

According to Pamintuan, all surgical services such as removal of sebaceous cyst, lymphoma cyst, tendon cyst, abscess, warts and even small breast mass will be performed in the new hospital free of charge.

“Patients will not be required to pay any fees. However, they are required to pass thorough profiling and screening process prior to their admission,” Pamintuan said.

“After passing the profiling and screening process done by our barangay health workers, patients will be properly recommended for surgery by the rural health physician,” he added.

The medical facility has 10 surgical beds and other medical equipment for minor surgeries and operations that will be scheduled every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Along with the opening, Dr. Rudy Ong, a private practicing surgeon, and nine other doctors performed surgical operations to some 110 patients.

Ong said he is happy to see the smiles on these patients once their problems had been solved.

“In this mission, we can see the smiles on these patients after availing our services and you can’t put a price on that. When they go back home surely they could live a normal healthy life,” he said.

Pamintuan thanked Ong and his team of surgeons and nurses for supporting the health program.

The mayor said it would greatly help the City Government achieve its goal of providing better health care and medical services to the Angeleños.

The mayor also reported that his administration’s health programs have already assisted 398,916 beneficiaries from July 2010 to June 2012.

These programs include: patients served at the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC), renal care unit, optical/cataract treatment, Barangay Day medical and dental mission, medicine dispensary, PhilHealth program, anti-rabies, anti-tuberculosis and nutrition program, and maternal care services.

“These, we all achieved within two years only,” Pamintuan said.

At the same time, Pamintuan announced the construction of the P50 million extension wing at the RLMMC with a 30-bed capacity where the new shipment of medical equipment from the World Medical Relief Inc. will be used.

MANILA — An intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and a weak southwest monsoon will bring rains over some parts of the country, the weather bureau said Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said a weak southwest monsoon is affecting northern and central Luzon, while an ITCZ is affecting Mindanao.
The weather bureau also said northern and central Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and from the east to northeast over the rest of the country.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
Weather forecaster Lenny Ruiz said so far, no weather disturbance has been monitored near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Ruiz said temperature in Metro Manila may range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius and will experience rainshowers in the afternoon or evening.
He said the public may expect a good weather on Friday until weekend but may experience scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening due to the ITCZ.
The ITCZ is the result of the converging of trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres and it brings widespread cloudiness, thunderstorms, precipitation and moderate to strong surface winds and where low pressure areas are formed. (PNA/Sunnex)

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Pampanga Police Public Safety Company will spearhead a basic disaster management training of village officials, including watchmen here this August.

Superintendent Bernard Perez, public safety company chief, told Sun.Star Pampanga that the training on basic relief operation, including water search and rescue is usually being held at Clark and Subic.

Perez and his group earlier attended a five-day training to equip themselves with the rescue skills.

Police Provincial Director Edgardo Tinio said the training was sponsored by Governor Lilia Pineda to further bolster the campaign on “zero casualty” during calamities.

Pineda told village officials to prepare for rigid rescue training in order to promote the safety of their constituents, whenever there is an emergency situation, especially this rainy season. Villages in low-lying towns will be given priority for the training.

Each village will be required to send at least five representatives who are physically and emotionally fit and ready to provide assistance during calamities.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Two more Kapampangans, this time from the 3rd district of the province, committed suicide last Wednesday.

The victim was only identified as “Mang Domingo” (not his real name), 64, of Barangay San Nicolas, Arayat town. (Relatives requested anonymity of the victim.)

Mang Domingo worked for at least five years in Saudi Arabia but manifested signs of depression after learning that his house and other properties were being foreclosed by a bank.

His neighbor also told Sun.Star Pampanga that several creditors are also running after his family due to debts that remain unpaid despite several years of working abroad.

“Siguro na-depress ng malaman niyang marami silang utang at nang hindi niya kinaya, ay nagpakamatay,” one of the victim’s relatives said.

Mang Domingo hanged himself.

Another suicide victim was a resident of this city, whose wife was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with another man.

“Nalaman kasi nya na yung kanyang asawa ay may ibang ka-relasyon. Mula noon ay hindi na siya gaanong nagkikikibo tapos ayon nagpakamatay gamit ang isang baril,” a relative from Sta. Ana town told Sun.Star Pampanga.

It can be recalled that in the 4th district, at least nine suicide incidents have been recorded within the period of three months, in towns of Macabebe and Masantol.

Poverty and depression are believed to be the reasons behind the incidents.

MABALACAT — A group of mountain and road bikers assailed the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) for implementing a bike ban along the MA Roxas Street during rush hours without prior notice.
Some members of the Kabalen Mountain Bikers Association (KMBA) said they were not allowed to pass by the Clark Freeport main gate last Thursday and Sunday.
The KMBA members said the CDC management should have placed signs before the Freeport’s main entrance to warn cyclists of the new rules.
The bike restriction is against the program of the CDC to make Clark a sports tourism area, the bikers claimed.
Nicanor Targa, CDC Security and Fire Department chief, however, said the new guideline has not been implemented yet.
He said his office has yet to issue a notice to cyclists, construction workers, and other concerned individuals.
Bikers will not be allowed to pass the busy MA Roxas Avenue between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to prevent accidents, Targa said.
The new guideline will also require employees riding bikes to their places of work to wear proper gears for their protection, according to Targa.
