CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Councilor Jimmy Lazatin urged Thursday his fellow politicians to “take a break from campaigning and help the sick.”
Speaking before children stricken with leukemia and cancer, and their parents during SM City San Fernando Downtown’s “Love is for Kids,” Lazatin said the sick, especially children, should be given attention and assurance that leaders and those aspiring for various posts in the May polls are looking after them.
“I strongly believe that politicians should take a break from campaigning to at least be part of activities like this where we could see the situation of children who are afflicted with cancer, leukemia and other forms of serious illnesses,” he said.
Lazatin told Sun.Star Pampanga that politicians could show some affection, even if no material assistance could immediately be extended.
“We could at least see their situation and feel what they feel. Personally, I am optimistic for their cure with the help of God and our prayers,” he said.
Some 18 cancer-stricken children out-patients from the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Hospital and Tarlac Provincial Hospital were treated by officials of SM City San Fernando Downtown and the Kythe Foundation to a day of fun, dining, shopping and playing at the mall.

ANGELES CITY — Pampanga Representative Carmelo Lazatin (first district) led Thursday the inauguration of the newly constructed road in Barangay Cutcut.
The lawmaker, at the same time, joined other barangay officials in the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of another road along Leen Street and the rehabilitation of the village’s barangay hall.
Lazatin led the ribbon cutting ceremony in Sitio Mali with members of Team Lazatin, including Councilor Bryan Nepomuceno, Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., Lawyer Nino Enriquez, and Former Councilor and veteran mediaman Max Sangil.
Cutcut chairwoman Cecilia Nepomuceno thanked Lazatin for the said projects.
“In behalf of the Cutcut barangay council and residents, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Congressman Lazatin,” said Nepomuceno.
Cutcut councilman Roy Ogurida lauded Lazatin for supporting the barangay council in terms of infrastructure projects.
“As chairman of the Cutcut Barangay Council’s Committee on Public Works, I would like to thank Congressman Lazatin for appropriating funds for the road construction in Leen Street and the rehabilitation of the Cutcut Barangay Hall,” Ogurida said, adding: “Residents of Barangay Cutcut will benefit greatly from these projects.”
Also present during the event are representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways engineers Apolinario Mateo and Rolly Gonzales, and members of the Cutcut barangay council.
Lazatin also led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of two roads in Purok 3 and 4 in Barangay Anunas on Friday.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Team PNoy 2013 literally “conquered” Pampanga on Friday as the administration senatorial candidates made their way from Candaba and Mexico towns in the morning and the City of San Fernando and Guagua in the afternoon for the whole-day sorties welcomed by thousands of yellow-clad folks bearing Liberal Party (LP) flaglets.
In San Fernando, where a meeting with hundreds of local political and community leaders was held at Heroes Hall, no less than President Benigno Aquino III — several times speaking in the Kapampangan language — sought for support on the bids of senatoriables Loren Legarda, Franklin Drilon, Koko Pimentel, Bam Aquino, Jun Magsaysay, Grace Poe, Peter Cayetano, Riza Hontiveros, and Jamby Madrigal who presented their respective platforms.
“In the news today, it says PNoy entered Pampanga. Sa totoo lang po, this is just the beginning of what would be the visit of Team PNoy. I am a Kapampangan and proud to be one,” he said.
The President also disclosed billions of pesos worth of infrastructure projects for the province, including flood mitigation and disaster risk programs.
“The P5-billion master rehabilitation plan of the Pampanga Delta Phase I is ongoing. Together with this, we have allocated another P2.956 billion for the integrated disaster risk and climate change program. Already, our kabalens are feeling the benefits of the Lazatin Flyover, plus the improvements of the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo Road, like the portion from Lubao to Hermosa which cut down travel time to 30 minutes. There are also now completed farm-to-market roads in Floridablanca, Lubao and Magalang. Ika yu pu ing ginawa kanini. Ikayu ing boss ku (You are the ones who did these because you are our boss),” President Aquino said.
He also pledged that the lack of classrooms here and the whole country, where some 1,250 classrooms have been constructed, will be addressed by December this year.
“Nung nanung sinabi ku, iyang gawan ku (What I said, I will do). That is because I know that cabalens are on the side of truth at hindi maikakadena ang Kapampangan sa katiwalian. Kayo ang mga boss na magdi-disisyon sa darating na halalan at tuloy na pag-arangkada natin sa Tuwid na Daan,” added the President.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez welcomed the pronouncements and said the President was up to his promises all the time.
“We thank the President for the infrastructure and funds which include some P800 million for the city’s flood mitigation projects like the Del Carmen-Balimbing Creek rehabilitation. We are also very happy about his visit and the sorties of Team PNoy. Already, they have gained much in posting so far a 9-3 slate with Bam Aquino rising from 16th to 9th. Our kabalens extend their gratitude to President Noynoy,” said Rodriguez.

The priest-turned-politician also noted that the province will receive more opportunities from the Aquino administration if the complete slate of the LP both in the national and local level will be elected.
“Ngayon kakampi natin ang Malacanang, yung pag unlad na pinapangarap natin ay malapit na, kaya Candaba mag isip ka,” Maglanque told the supporters who attended the political rally.

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT–A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by the Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) and GrainPro Phils, Inc. that will develop and enhance the agricultural potential of Arakan Valley Complex in the province of Cotabato.
The signing was made by CFCST president Dr. Samson Molao and GrainPro vice president for sales Dr. Jose Gomos at the GrainPro building inside the Subic Bay Industrial Park (SBIP) here.
In the MOU, both the CFCST and GrainPro plan to establish the “Arakan Valley Grain Keep Center, Inc.” that will serve as a postharvest center and agricultural processing facility that will handle all grains produced in the region.
The joint venture, according to a Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) official, will further enhance the country’s sustainability by ensuring that crops and seedlings maintain high quality.
He also pointed out that food security, especially in the Cotabato province, will suffice despite the two kinds of weather the region experiences in which he jokingly described as “wet and wetter.”
Molao said that with the technology and equipment GrainPro has, the ratio of grain spoilage will drastically be reduced and safekeeping of seedlings will take longer than the usual time when using conventional methods.
The Cotabato college has an assigned land reservation covering the whole of Arakan Valley Complex. The reservation encompasses five municipalities and 132 barangays.
The college recently received a grant from President Benigno Aquino’s social fund to pursue agricultural development projects to discover and learn new farming knowledge beneficial to the community.
The college engaged GrainPro for its post-harvest expertise and revolutionary products.
The American company was founded in Concord, Massachusetts in 1992 and its products are principally manufactured at its wholly owned subsidiary, GrainPro Philippines Inc. here in Subic Bay Freeport since 2007.
GrainPro products are being used worldwide, particularly in hot and humid climates, as a safe, cost-effective solar drying, and airtight storage.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–A top official of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in the region warned the public against the scam on online booking for tour packages.
DOT-3 director Ronnie Tiotuico said his office has received five complaints of online travel agencies which suddenly disappeared after their clients paid using credit cards.
“Let’s stop booking our tour packages with these so-called travel specialists. After collecting your payment online (using your credit card), they just disappear in thin air,” Tiotuico said.
He, however, failed to divulge the names of the travel agencies pending results of investigatons.
“You can’t hail them in court. There is no physical address to speak of. I’ve had five complaints against these ‘vanishing’ agents,” he added.
With this, Tiotuico urged the people to deal only with DOT-accredited agents to prevent incidents of online booking fraud. He also stressed that a physical contact with travel agents is a must.
“DOT requires agents to have a capitalization of P500,000 just to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak,” he said. ●Marna D. Del Rosario
