CLARK FREEPORT – Clark International Airport became part of aviation history when the world’s first Airbus A320 with Sharklets arrived on Wednesday, carrying 180 passengers from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.
The newly designed wing-tip devices of the Airbus A320 with Sharklets reduce fuel burn and emissions by improving the aerodynamics of the aircraft.
Aside from this, the Sharklets offer the flexibility of either adding around 100 nautical miles more range or allowing increased payload capability of up to 450 kilograms.
The said aircraft is being operated by low cost carrier AirAsia Berhad Malaysia.

AirAsia’s state-of-the-art and environment-friendly aircraft will certainly redefine air travel experience in the country and in our neighboring countries in Asia,” Victor Jose Luciano, Clark International Airport Corporation president, said.
AirAsia Inc. Chief Executive Officer Maan Hontiveros said they always believe in embracing technological advancements.
“These new wing tip devices installed in our Airbus A320 will contribute to fulfilling our goal of being the most efficient, innovative low cost airline in the world. More important, these new Airbus A320 with Sharklets aircraft will enable savings of four percent in fuel consumption, corresponding to an annual carbon reduction of around 1,000 tons per aircraft,” she said.
“This advancement will also put AirAsia ahead of the competition as we continue to be the frontrunners in the aviation industry — in line with AirAsia’s rapid expansion plans to grow throughout the Asian region,” Hontiveros added.
AirAsia recently placed a new order of 100 more Airbus A320 aircraft including 36 A320ceo aircraft with Sharklets. Altogether, AirAsia has ordered 475 single aisle aircraft from Airbus, comprising 264 A320neo and 211 A320ceo.
In 2013, through combination of firm Airbus deliveries and leases – AirAsia Malaysia will take delivery of 10 aircraft, AirAsia Thailand – eight aircraft, AirAsia Indonesia – nine aircraft, AirAsia Japan – four aircraft and Philippines’ AirAsia – three aircraft.
“Our guests can look forward to new routes from AirAsia this year as we add connectivity to other parts of Asia as well as increase frequency to existing routes making air transport via Clark International Airport more exciting than ever,” Hontiveros said.

ANGELES CITY — The husband of a dialysis patient at the Renal Care Unit (RCU) of the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC) slammed the hospital recently for charging his wife with an amount of P11,000.
Bonifacio Dumantay, husband of the patient and a resident of Barangay Anunas, appeared in a local radio show and shared his experience at RCU.
According to Dumantay, his wife’s attending physician, Dr. Ramon Suarez, asked him to prepare P11,000 for his wife’s dialysis treatment.
Dumantay said he was able to raise P10,000 with the help of relatives and friends and he informed Suarez about this. After which, his wife was brought in for treatment.
Suarez allegedly asked Dumantay’s son to give the P6,000 to him and instructed the latter to pay the remaining P4,000 at the hospital cashier.
Dumantay said his son was not given a receipt for the P6,000 that he paid to Suarez.
The receipt and charge slips issued to Dumantay lists the fees paid for his wife’s treatment, which includes P1,750 for the RCU dialysis treatment charges, P100 miscellaneous fee, P500 Professional Fee for the attending physician, P700 “emergency fee,” and an additional charge of P1,700 which is listed as “F8,” amounting to a total of P4,750.
Dumantay has issued a signed statement detailing the events concerning the dialysis treatment of his wife at the RCU.
The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center formerly Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA) is run by the administration of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.
Last November 21, 2012, the administration of Pamintuan, also earned flak for the controversial “emergency fee” being charged to RCU patients who were not able to secure a scheduled slot for dialysis treatment.
The said “emergency fee” is reportedly not paid at the hospital cashier but given directly to the nurses. Patients are supposedly given “charge slips” instead of official receipts. (Rey Navales)

THE Angeles City administrator welcomed Monday the execution of affidavits by relatives of several barangay officials claiming to be “ghost employees” of City Hall, even as he said the complainants may only be incriminating themselves.
“The complainants may indeed be ‘ghost employees’ because they are nowhere in our roster of job order (JO) workers and payrolls,” Dennis Albert Pamintuan said.
“As far as we are concerned, they do not exist,” he added.
He explained that all JOs are required to submit accomplishment reports and that daily time records were issued with official identification (ID) cards and personally signed the payrolls.
“If these self-confessed ghost employees did not submit duly certified daily time records and regular monthly reports, do not have IDs and, more importantly, did not personally sign any payroll, then indeed they do not exist,” he said.
Pamintuan was reacting to a two-page-paid advertisement signed by five barangay council member claiming their relatives and friends are “ghost employees” of the City Hall.
“Obviously, these people who are stooges of Congressman Tarzan Lazatin want to drag us to a media war on an issue that they have already filed before the Ombudsman. Since they already chose the legal arena, we are more inclined to face them there,” he said.
He said the statements, which he and Alex Cauguiran (chief of staff of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan), issued regarding the filing of counter-charges “are not bluffs or threats.”
“They have actually perjured themselves even more with the execution of affidavits based on false claims and spurious documents,” he added.
He said the mayor has issued directives that all false claims and lies should be confronted squarely and legally if necessary.
“With the affidavits, we now have firm legal basis to file perjury cases against these people,” he said.

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Central Luzon said Tuesday that the processing of passport applications and renewals at its centers in Robinsons Starmills in the City of San Fernando and MarQuee Mall in Angeles City is back to normal after it suffered from backlogs recently.
DFA Regional Director Art Romua said the backlogs encountered by the agency rooted from the breakdown of printing machines at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas where passports are printed and embedded with security codes and features.
“We had a backlog of about 1,000 applications last month until the early part of January this year. The almost a month backlog was a result of printing machines at the Central bogging down because of probably the heavy load encountered during the peak season of Christmas and New Year when a lot of people travel and go on vacation,” said Romua.
“We even had to close down our Express Lane — where processing takes just about six to ten days — because of the delay so we would avoid inconveniencing our clients. Others in a rush were referred to our Manila consulate and given priority. Now I just got word that new printing machines are in place and hopefully, our operations and processing will normalize this week, starting today. We also have re-opened our Express Lane to serve applicants better,” he added.
Another factor that contributed to the sudden rise of applications, Romua said, is the increase of promotional flights for international destinations at the Clark International Airport. Both locals and foreigners seeking passports or applying for renewals of the e-passports have been queuing up at the DFA regional office.
The DFA in Robinsons Starmills processes about 700 applications per day, while the office in MarQuee Mall processes some 250 to 300 passports per day, Romua said.
“Everything will normalize this week and we are optimistic that we could return to our usual processing of passport applications which is from 10 to 20 days from the time of application to releasing of the passport. Applicants need not worry because we are on top of the situation and doing everything to avoid any further delays or backlogs,” Romua added.

ANGELES CITY – The camp of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan on January 7 asked the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Adoracion Agbada to extend the time period allotted for the submission of the counter affidavit for the graft and corruption charges filed against Pamintuan and three others before the Ombudsman.
The charges are regarding the controversial 2,506 job order employees of the City Government under the Pamintuan administration.
This was revealed by local mediaman Robledo Sanchez who received a copy of the motion for extension of time filed by Pamintuan and company.
Sanchez said that Pamintuan, along with the other three respondents of the case, City Accountant Wilfredo Tiotuico, City Budget Officer Fe Corpuz, and City Treasurer Juliet Quinsaat, submitted a Motion for Extension of Time asking the Deputy Ombudsman to grant them an additional fifteen (15) days from January 7 to January 22 to file their counter affidavit.
Sanchez said that the Pamintuan camp reasoned that while the draft for the Counter Affidavits has already been prepared, they need more time to accomplish the said affidavits because they have been “saddled with very tight and heavy work schedule” during the Holiday Season.
The Pamintuan camp also said that on December 13, 2012, they learned from a news article that three witnesses have allegedly filed their respective affidavits and having not received the said witness affidavits in the order issued by the Deputy Ombudsman on December 5, 2012, they are unable to properly answer the allegations.
On October 19, 2012, Sanchez filed the graft and corruption charges against Pamintuan and company before the Office of the Ombudsman regarding the 2,506 job order appointments of the City Government under the Pamintuan administration.
Last Friday (January 11), Sanchez headed back to the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City to submit a Supplemental Complaint Affidavit containing the sworn statements of five witnesses claiming to be listed in the job order appointments of the City Government as ‘ghost employees’, i.e. employees that are included in the payroll but are not actually working.
Sanchez was accompanied by the witnesses in the filing of the supplemental affidavit.
The witnesses include Irene David, wife of Councilmen’s League of Angeles City (CLAC) Vice President for External Affairs and Barangay Lourdes Northwest Kagawad William David, Joan Lozano, sister of CLAC Vice President and Barangay Cutcut Kagawad Roy Ogurida, Marlene Coronel, wife of Barangay Salapungan Kagawad Renato Coronel, Roberto Miranda, friend of Barangay Santo Domingo Kagawad Oliver Chaneco, and Barangay Margot Kagawad Nenita Ferrer.
The Deputy Ombudsman initially gave the respondents a period of 10 days to file their Counter Affidavit, failure to comply with which will result to the submission of the case for resolution.
