ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan now joins the ranks of the best mayors around the globe as he was ranked eighth among the top 10 awardees for the 2012 World Mayor Prize.
The City Mayors Foundation, organizers of the World Mayor Project, came out with the top 10 awardees on Tuesday who were judged based primarily by the arguments and persuasiveness of testimonials bestowed upon the chosen mayors.
The total number of votes cast was only considered as a secondary factor as, according to the World Mayor website, “basing judgment on numbers alone would unfairly disadvantage mayors from smaller towns.”
Despite its relatively small size against huge cities like Bilbao, Spain; El Paso, Texas; and Quebec City in Canada, the city mayor from Angeles still managed to acquire several nominations and testimonies from voters in the city and the country as well.
In an interview, Pamintuan said he was thankful of all the support from all the Angeleños and local government employees who helped him take the eighth place.
“I am truly grateful of all the hard work that the City Government employees and officials have shown. To all the city councilors headed by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, department, office and program heads, barangay chief executives and kagawads (councilors), I couldn’t have achieved such an award without your support,” he said.
Pamintuan is the only mayor from the Philippines to join the awardees, and is one out of three in Asia.
According to World Mayor’s website, Pamintuan was chosen for his “for specific achievements, including being the first mayor to build a city college providing low-cost education; the planting of 200,000 trees with help from volunteers, which apparently will help avoid flooding; the cleaning of major drainages and for modernizing the city hospital, including installing dialysis facilities.”

City of San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, who is also the national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), congratulated Pamintuan.
“We are happy for Mayor Pamintuan’s inclusion in top ten World Mayor Prize. Another feather in the cap of Kapampangans and Filipinos,” Rodriguez said.
One testimonial from Gerald M. in Angeles City lauded Pamintuan for his firm commitment to serving the public.
“His passion to public service has contributed to the betterment of our city. He knows the needs of his fellow men and he has never failed to provide for all these needs,” states the testimony.
Carla, also from Angeles City, then complements this by citing Pamintuan’s dedication to developing healthcare through the 19 dialysis machines in the city’s Renal Care Unit.
“Mayor Edgardo ‘ed’ Pamintuan had help the city to regain its natural beauty, he open a lot of opportunity for the locals to have business and working job for other locals as well. When it comes to health, he is the one responsible for a less cost dialysis center for our less fortunate locals now they have their dialysis in a lower cost price… [sic]” Carla said.
Another testimony from Jonel G. praised Pamintuan for the establishment of the City College of Angeles.
“Edgardo Pamintuan was the mayor of my choice because finally after graduating to high school 6yrs ago and wanting to go to college to continue my study only this mayor granted my wish and the wish of thousands poor young talented, brave and intelligent Angeleños who aimed to finish their studies… [sic]” Jonel said.

ANGELES CITY — Local government officials called on the public and fellow officials to support the PhilHealth programs, particularly the upcoming “PhilHealth Run 2013: Nationwide Run for Mother and Child Protection” in February 17.
Governor Lilia Pineda said the success of PhilHealth’s programs greatly depends on the support of government officials, public hospitals, doctors and the private sector.
“The health services that Philhealth offers can be maximized with the support of government and the private sector. Let us support Philhealth and its programs for 2013,” Pineda said.
David called on running enthusiasts to join the PhilHealth Run 2013, saying the event shall be an avenue to show corporate social responsibility of the beneficiaries involved in the protection of Mother and Child.
He added that the event will benefit Porac town and other beneficiaries like KaKaK Foundation, Programme Margarita, and Bulacan Medical Center.
He said he will personally participate in the event and invite other participants in Porac town.
“We are very thankful for the support of PhilHealth and we hope to invite participants in the coming event,” David added.
Cabigting, who read Mayor Edgardo Pamituan’s welcome remarks during the event, said the program will enable the success of PhilHealth programs.
She said the run is targeting some 12,000 professional and amateur runners in two sites, Clark Freeport and Malolos City in Bulacan.
“Let us support this worthy cause of Philhealth and become sponsors of bring more health care services to non-government organizations and institutions,” Cabigting said.
Cabigting said that Angeles City is very thankful to the agency for facilitating the distribution of PhilHealth cards for indigents in the city years ago.

THE second year of the “Blue Run,” which aims to raise funds for various activities of the Don Bosco Alumni Association (DBAA) in Pampanga, is all set on January 26, 2013 at the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) parade grounds, according to an event organizer.
The “Blue Run Year 2: I struggle, I win,” which is a family-oriented fund raising activity, was organized by Don Bosco Pampanga Batch 1988 in cooperation with the DBAA–Pampanga Chapter, according to Event chairman and technical director Melvin Fausto.
Fausto said the activity coincides with the alumni homecoming and is also in preparation for the Don Bosco Pampanga Foundation Day celebrations from January 30 to February 1, 2013.
Fausto said the last year’s “Blue Run’s” proceeds benefitted indigent families living in nearby Mabalacat City.
“This event is an opportune time for all Don Bosco Pampanga students and alumni to get together for a cause-oriented, yet fun-filled activity,” Fausto said.
He said registration starts at 6 a.m. while the start gun will fire-off at 7 a.m. for the 2.5-kilometers (2.5K), 5K, and 10K categories.
Fausto said the registration for the Grand Alumni Homecoming will start at 4 p.m. followed by celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 5 p.m. and homecoming dinner by 6 p.m. (PR)

MABALACAT CITY — Four men are facing robbery charges in connection with the break-in at an outlet of LBC money transfer here last January 1, where some P750,000 cash was stolen.
The suspects, who are still at large, are identified as Requino Bulanit Dacmeg Jr. of Isabela; Arvil Palale Samonte of Baguio City; Bryan Ay-Em Ban-Ang of Isabela; and Ken Cawasan Gupak Jr.
City Police Director Ferdinand Perez said two witnesses identified the four suspects.
Perez said the suspects allegedly managed to enter the establishment by passing through a drainage system and drilling a hole.
They destroyed the vault and carted away the cash and a cellular phone owned by the company, the police said.
Inspector Jesus Dungca, Dau police chief, said a huge amount of money was left by the suspects and later recovered by LBC employees inside the establishment.
But the LBC staff did not allow police officers to count the recovered money, Dungca added.
