CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Over 1,628 residents in the province have benefited from the skills enhancement and training program being provided by the provincial government.
Francis Maslog, officer-in-charge of Provincial Manpower Training Center (PMTC), said that since 2010, the provincial government conducted in-house and community-based training for free in different municipalities here, in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Training Administration (TESDA).
“For almost three years now, the present administration continuously gives free skills training to our cabalen who would like to improve their craft for higher possibility of employment,” Maslog said.
He said trained skilled workers are competent enough for local and international employment.
Of the total beneficiaries, 266 are already employed, 755 are self-employed, 371 are referred to Public Employment Services Office (PESO) to work abroad and 233 underwent on-the-job training.
Maslog said Gov. Lilia Pineda instructed them not only to give training but also to help find a good job for the beneficiaries.
Among training provided by the PMTC are computer hardware servicing, consumer electronics, computer literacy, shielded metal arc welding, automotive servicing technology, electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing, Korean language proficiency training, furniture upholstery, heavy equipment operation, hair dressing, wellness massage, small engine servicing, and beauty care.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Quota International of Pampanga will be hosting their “Terak Kata Para Quing Quota” (Let’s Dance for Quota) at the SM City Pampanga Event Center to raise more funds and awareness for the socio-civic programs of the club.
The event on November 16 is expected to be attended by members of the group, its civic supporters and the other non-government groups.
The event includes dance routines, dance aerobic numbers and the like led by competent dance instructors.
Quota president Zelinda Soto said the event is also a reiteration of the programs of their club and a move to drum in financial support for their ongoing and future programs.
Quota Pampanga has been repeatedly lauded for its program support for the Special Education (Sped) class of Pampanga High School.
Quota Pampanga, according to Soto, has been continuously addressing the many educational needs of the special children in the said class.
Currently Quota Pampanga has also been sending more than two dozen children to school, shouldering much of their tuition fees through the help of club members.

THE country’s oil port in Bataan was able to exceed its target revenues for October but three other main ports fell short of their goals for the same month, dragging the performance of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), preliminary data showed.
According to the preliminary data, the Port of Limay in Bataan posted a P618-million surplus collection based on its goal for the month of P3.19 billion.
But Batangas Port, another oil port, narrowly missed its target for the month of P6.28 billion by P170 million.
Toward the end of October, Limay, where oil depots of Petron Corp. and other oil companies are located, collected more than P1 billion in one particular day, or about a third of its target for the month.
Meanwhile, the Batangas Port, which collects from oil firms such as Pilipinas Shell, was able to collect P1 billion in one particular day also toward the end of the month.
Although the two main Manila ports were not able to reach their collection goals, their shortfalls were lower compared with those during previous months.
Manila International Container Port (MICP), the country’s largest, incurred a P1.15-billion shortfall based on its P8.05-billion target, with its collection only hitting P6.89 billion. The Port of Manila (POM) posted a shortfall of P1.52 billion when it collected only P4.86 billion as against its P6.38-billion goal.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) reported a shortfall collection of P141 million when it collected only P2.17 billion as against its target of P2.31 billion.
The collection targets of the BOC’s five major ports account for about 85 percent of the agency’s goal for the period.
For the first 10 months of 2012, MICP still had the biggest shortfall of P16.55 billion, with its collection of P61.37 billion as against its target of P77.92 billion. The Port of Manila had the second-largest collection deficit of P14.1 billion with P47.71 billion compared with its target of P61.81 billion.
Among the top five ports, only Limay was able post surplus collection from January to October of P960 million with its collection of P31.88 billion as against the target of P30.92 billion. Batangas, however, had a deficit collection of P7.64 billion as it collected only P53.22 billion as against its target of P60.86 billion.
Naia fell short by P3.71 billion, with its collection only reaching P18.68 billion compared with its target of P22.4 billion.
The other ports that missed their targets for October included the collection districts of San Fernando, Legazpi, Surigao, Zamboanga and the Office of the Commissioner, which ailed to collect a single centavo from the tax-expenditure fund target of P694 million.
The ports that posted surplus collections included Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Subic Bay, Clark Field and Aparri.
The BOC aims to collect about P347 billion this year.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A top official of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham) said the local economy is now getting healthier as projected.
PamCham vice chairman Rene Romero, now co-chairman [representing the private sector] of the Regional Competitiveness Council, said the advent of the 2013 elections, the country’s earning recently positive ratings in competitiveness and the re-election of US President Barack Obama are contributing to the rebound of the local economy and the boosting of the purchasing power of consumers like Kapampangans and Filipinos in general.
He earlier projected – based on local parameters and observations of colleagues at PamCham – that the economy will be shaky but not alarming, due to the “burning out” of giant economies like the US and China and insufficient circulation of money locally.
He said then that the economy will gain momentum at the onset of elections in October and could last until June next year when money remains in steady circulation.
“Money has started circulating because of the coming elections when candidates filed their certificates last month. Consumer spending towards the Christmas Season is growing because of this, as they are beginning to have stronger purchasing power. This is evident now in malls and other stores where people are buying an assortment of products and goods,” Romero said.
Romero added that the positive rise in the country’s competitiveness index is another factor in buoying up the local economy. “That is a good sign for investors, exporters and the labor sector, since more jobs will be generated, remittances increased and exports expectedly returning to normal levels. We are hopeful with these especially with the re-election of US President Barack Obama.”
He said the decision of Americans to give Obama another term is “practical” and will have effects on its and the Philippines’ economic landscape.
“And since the Philippine economy is affected by US policies, we expect them to rebound as well and gain positive results from renewed trade, especially our exports to them…” Romero said.
“With all these factors positively interplaying until next year, we in the industry and private sector are optimistic of a healthier local economy and greater purchasing power for consumers,” he added.
