The singer recently flew to the US and guested in the show to promote her first big Hollywood movie “Here Comes the Boom” which stars Kevin James and Salma Hayek.

“I play Kevin James’ student,” she told hosts of “The Couch”. “That was my first big role because it’s one of the supporting roles and I also sang in the movie. There was also a singing part. It’s very inspirational. I’ve seen a lot of Kevin James movies and this is the best one so far.”

“Here Comes the Boom” is about a Biology teacher (James), who also works as a mixed martial arts fighter to keep the music program of the school alive.

Charice auditioned for a role in the movie and was asked to sing Neil Diamond’s “Holly Holy.”

“I did not know the song. I didn’t even know that I was gonna do the song. I thought I was just gonna act. I was getting ready, reading the script and all of a sudden they gave me the lyrics of the song ‘Holly Holy’. So I went to the conference room, Frank (Coraci), the director was there, everyone was there. I was shaking. (I was saying to myself) ‘Why am I shaking? This is my job, I sing.’ Thank God I made it,” she said.

Charice also feels proud and grateful about working with the cast, whom she described as “nice and sweet.”

“I love all of them. I’m just very blessed. I just didn’t expect them to be that nice and sweet. Being with them on the set, I kept telling them, if you guys are gonna make another movie ‘Pick me, pick me,’” she said in jest.

Charice was also asked how TV host Oprah helped her career.

“I can say that she’s one of those people I really owe. She gave me the career I’ve been wanting. Until now she’s still there to support me. I want to thank her for everything,” Charice replied.

Infinity album

She also discussed her Infinity album, which will be released in the US.

“The album came out in Asia first. I’m still working on some music to put in the US version. It’s called Infinity. I just finished being a judge-mentor in X Factor Philippines.”

Charice was ecstatic when she met fellow guest Lynda Carter, star of “Wonderwoman.”

Technology research company Ovum forecast the cumulative losses would reach $54 billion by the end of 2016 as the traditional Short Messaging Service (SMS) gives way to Internet-based platforms such as WhatsApp.
“Social messaging is becoming more pervasive and operators are coming under increased pressure to drive revenues from the messaging component of their communications business,” said Neha Dharia, consumer telecoms analyst at Ovum.
“Operators need to understand the impact of social messaging apps on consumer behaviour, both in terms of changing communication patterns and the impact on SMS revenue, and offer services to suit.”
Ovum cited the increasing popularity of WhatsApp, which allows smartphone owners to exchange messages for free using wireless Internet links, bypassing SMS gateways that charge users per message or for a monthly quota.
“Ovum believes this level of growth will continue as smartphone and mobile broadband penetration increases and expects smaller players such as texPlus, Pinterest and fring to cause further disruption in the messaging space,” the report said.
Urging telecom operators to innovate, Ovum said the increase in the number of players offering social messaging services is not a short-term trend but a sign of a “shift in communication patterns.”
Text messaging started as a way to use spare telecoms capacity but became a key cash generator for operators while offering users a cheap way to keep in touch with friends and family without having to spend on phone calls.
Ovum said in June that SMS contributed about 57 percent of non-voice revenues for telecom companies globally in 2009 but this is projected to fall to 47 percent this year.

MANILA, Philippines – Kapamilya actress Jodi Sta. Maria admitted that her life has totally changed because of the hit daytime series “Be Careful With My Heart,” where she plays a lead role for the first time.
“Super. Sobrang laking pagbabago talaga,” Sta. Maria said in an interview on “Kris TV” hosted by Kris Aquino.

“Yes, nandoon pa rin siya. Hindi pa rin ako naggi-give up doon sa pangarap ko na ‘yon,” she said.
“Wala naman sa edad ‘yung pag-aaral, hindi ba? Hanggang kaya ko. Hindi ba hanggang may buhay may pag-asa? So nandoon pa rin ako, hindi ko pa din siya binibitiwan.”

WASHINGTON — At least 14 Americans have been killed, 156 others sickened in a deadly fungal meningitis outbreak linked to contaminated drug, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Thursday.

CEBU CITY — Representative Tomas Osmeña has bared a plan to expand the S. Osmena Road near Cebu City’s port area to an eight-lane road to provide a wider service route to the pier and serve as a “freeway” to southern parts of Cebu province.
Osmena (Cebu City, south district) said the project has an allocation of P150-million in the 2012 national budget and will be bidded out before the year ends.
S. Osmena Road, which was named after his father, the late senator Sergio “Serging” Osmena Jr., is a national road and its expansion will be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Osmena said there are also plans to build two center road tunnels along the entire stretch of S. Osmena Road from the Mahiga Creek near the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) building to the South Coastal Road tunnel near Plaza Independencia.
But separate funding for this still has to be identified, he said.
The tunnels will occupy two middle lanes of the planned eight-lane S. Osmena road, while the three outer lanes will be used as a freeway, Osmena said.
”The purpose of having the tunnel is to have non-stop traffic where vehicles don’t have to stop when you reach the intersections,” said Osmena who is vice chairman of the House committee on appropriations.
As proposed, the first road tunnel will be built at the intersection of S. Osmena Road and Juan Luna Street near Radisson Blu Hotel.
The second tunnel will be in a portion of S. Osmena Road near pier 4.
S. Osmena Road connects to the South Coastal Road that links Cebu City and Talisay City, where a 300-hectare reclamation project was undertaken during Osmena’s term as Cebu City mayor, now named the South Road Properties.
Linking the roads farther south would make travel to the outlying towns of Cebu’s 1st district faster and more accessible.
Earlier, Osmena said he diverted some P400 million intended for infrastructure projects in Cebu City’s south district to the expansion of the Cebu South Road, a project of Rep. Eduardo Gullas of Cebu’s 1st district.
About P1.25 billion is needed for the South Road expansion, of which Gullas said he only had P250 million available from his pork barrel. (PNA)
