MEXICO, Pamp. — The Pampanga 1 Electric Cooperative (Pelco 1) paired on Tuesday with the Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) for cataract screening and bone scanning mission in Barangay Sto. Domingo here.
According to Pelco 1’s Roy De Leon, the mission is part of cooperative’s corporate social responsibility programs deemed to benefit thousands of its member-consumers in areas which it serves, particularly Mexico, Sta. Ana, Arayat, Candaba, San Luis and Magalang.
“This cataract screening and bone scanning courtesy of our partner KDF is more than a Christmas gift to indigent member-consumers of Pelco 1. It is part of our CSR where we want our member-consumers to get those extra benefits for their welfare aside from the good power distribution we provide,” De Leon said.
Pelco 1 General Manager Loliano Allas, for his part, told Sun.Star Pampanga that the cataract screening and bone scanning is a prelude to the firm’s healthcare program which will be launched early next year.
Allas said, “We are already building a community clinic which will be housed here in our headquarters. This clinic will have complete equipment and staff like doctors and medical specialists. We want our member-consumers to feel that Pelco 1 is taking care of them.”
He added, “Hopefully, we can open this community clinic to the needy public aside of our franchise areas. We are fully committed in our social responsibility projects and would to share this to everyone.”

THE Ladies of Quota International of Pampanga certainly know how to end the year with a blast. After embarking on a rollercoaster list of social programs and projects this 2012, the all-women group is now ready to take 2013 by the horns and start the New Year right.

ANGELES CITY – Three residents here, who are connected with local barangay officials, are set to submit on December 18 their affidavit to the Office of the Ombudsman denying knowledge about the inclusion of their names in the payroll as job order appointments of the City Government under the administration of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.
Marlene Coronel, wife of Salapungan village councilman Renato Coronel; Josephine Bondoc, wife of Capaya village councilman Rafael Bondoc, and Robert Miranda, friend of Santo Domingo village councilman Oliver Chaneco all signed their affidavits declaring that they did not know that their names have been included in the list of the city’s job order employees.
The affidavits will be submitted as supplements to the complaint submitted by local mediaman Robledo Sanchez to the Ombudsman on October 19, 2012 charging Mayor Pamintuan, City Accountant Wilfredo Tiotuico, City Budget Officer Fe Corpuz, City Treasurer Juliet Quinsaat and the different respective department heads with graft and corruption over the 2,506 job order employees employed by the Pamintuan administration.
Coronel, Bondoc and Miranda are all listed as administrative assistants under the Philhealth program of the Office of the Mayor, hired for the period of July 1 to December 30, 2012, and are supposedly receiving a salary rate of P500 a day.
All three of them deny any participation in the said Philhealth Program and said that they are neither working for nor receiving salary from the City Government.
According to Coronel, Bondoc and Miranda, they decided to submit their affidavit after discovering, through a local radio program, that their names have been included in the said list of job order employees without their knowledge.
Earlier, Lourdes village councilman William David also denied knowing about the inclusion of his wife’s name, Irene David, in the list of job order employees.
This is also the case for Cutcut village councilman Roy Ogurida who denied any knowledge about his sister’s name, Joan Lozano, being included in the said list.
David and Ogurida, previously, both appeared in a local radio station to air their grievances.

PORAC — The Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), gave Christmas packs to 48 Aetas enrolled at the Early Childhood Care Development (ECCD) Daycare Centre in Katutubo Village, Barangay Planas here recently.
The event came in response to the recent demise of the ECCD founder and educator of the 48 kids, Luz Torres.
“The frail looking yet unflagging native of the indigenous tribe devoted her time and resources attending to the children’s early education, which by necessity include hygienic training in addition to their intellectual development, while their parents are in the mountains either planting and or harvesting food crops for their sustenance and livelihood,” PamCham said in a statement.
“The children’s smiles and delight at receiving their goodies made up for the sad news of their kindhearted mentor’s succumbing to colon cancer barely a month ago,” PamCham added.
The committee also distributed food packs to some 300 residents of the Katutubo Village as part of what has become regular CSR activity for the members since December 2011.

MABALACAT CITY – Mayor Marino Morales has entered into an agreement with Holcim for the setting up of the Geocycle Co-Processing Technology that will convert waste materials into alternative fuel.
The conversion of waste materials into alternative fuel is a joint project of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) and the City Government to provide a sustainable solution for the disposal of wastes.
Governor Lilia Pineda said this will be a showcase project to lessen expenses on the disposal of wastes.
Under the project, wastes will be sorted out leaving a little percentage of residual wastes that will go to the sanitary landfill.
Among the wastes include plastics such as styrofoam packs, cellophanes, plastic bags, textile/cloth and rubber.
