No classes, no work in government offices ordered

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A local executive order was passed declaring a suspension of work in all government offices and of classes in public and private schools in Pampanga on June 15 in commemoration of the 21st anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
Acting Governor Joseller Guiao signed the order at 4 p.m. Wednesday. He was quick to point out, however, that the Executive Order does not cover the private sector and businesses like banks and other firms.
“It would be a regular working day for them (private business sector) and it will entirely be up to them if they would declare suspension of work. It’s solely their discretion,” Guiao said.
He said the order notes the significance of the event that has since formed a landmark in the history of the province as it rose from the devastation of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 and as it made a comeback to development 21 years after.
In Angeles City, meanwhile, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan ordered the recall of the implementation of City Ordinance No. 315 declaring June 15 of every year as a special non-working holiday in this city.
The cancellation was prompted by the absence of a Presidential Proclamation or an Act of Congress, which by law, are the only basis for the declaration of special non-working holidays, both in local and national application.
As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Office of the City Mayor, after constant follow-ups, has not received any official communication and approval from the Office of the President of the Philippines.
However, Pamintuan urges all Angeleños to observe in their own personal and collective capacities.
